The autopilot that kicks in when i get to an airport security checkpoint starting to get all the bits out that need to be removed in the US and Europe. Only it’s an internal flight in SE Asia so none of that is required! The rule seems to be carry on through with everything you have, just get rid of your bottle of water. Then the quick check out of all the things i need to entertain me on my short flight when i get to my seat, but what do i really want to do… Work! Yes sadly enough i am really missing using my brain, and am very excited by a new opportunity so it’s got me thinking lots.
So although I am very excited for seeing the islands of Thailand i am resorting to die hard habits and cramming in some work while flying through the skies to paradise. I love the feeling that i’m making progress and never is that more true than when i’m clearing through a big to do list on a plane, with the iPhone on flight mode it’s the only place where the task list can’t possibly get any longer as comms can’t get through. So there is a sense of satisfaction at least until i’m hooked back up again. I have a window of peace and i am going to make the most of it, especially seeing as i have three seats to myself and i can spread out! Who needs business class?! 🙂
There are other ways in which some things never change… i am spoilt! The driver from the spa was there to pick me up from the airport as arranged, and whisked me through the winding streets of Samui to the “sanctuary” of the spa. It’s not quite what i thought it was going to be, it’s right by the road so it was a bit noisy. But “it’s an adventure” i told myself, pushing myself out of my comfort zone.
The plan was to man up and enjoy it for what it is, so i settled myself in and walked the 10 or so paces to the beach. It’s not really one for swimming in, there is a small space right in front of the resort that is usable, but immediately to the right is a fisherman’s mooring where there are about 30 boats and the associated fishermen. It makes fascinating viewing watching them go about bringing in their boats in for the evening and tending to their nets and daily catches. But not so great for basking in the sea myself!
Instead I sat down on the beach to enjoy the dance of the sunset, it was pretty spectacular. The clouds breaking up into little bubbles before letting the sun burst through one more time before it rested for the night. It was stunning. As beautiful as it as the sunset did not escape from the fact that the whole experience is not quite what i thought it was going to be, so far… It all seems a bit disorganised, the staff don’t seem to really care what you are up to, which i think is remiss when you are fasting and detoxing. It doesn’t set my mind at ease at all.
My room is also right next to the restaurant, not a problem you would think on a fasting retreat as no one is supposed to be eating much! But there seem to be a lot of people that come here for the food as it’s that good, so it was busy all night. I was tired and grumpy and retreated to my room to work and watch films. But My beach hut
by the pool is supposed to be luxurious and is so basic and small and you can hear everything going on around the resort (yep even me with my terrible hearing!). I don’t think i can stand a week of this. So i settled myself in for some rest, eventually… I needed to be inside as my quick hour watching the sunset had made me a banquet for the local mosquitoes. 6 bites in an hour and the allergy has sprung up, i am a delicate flower who is just not cut out for this!
Ciao from an apprehensive cake lady signing off for some much needed sleep!
