So there is such a thing as bad cake, who knew?!

So there is such a thing as bad cake, who knew?!

A quick call to airbnb sorted all the apartment faff from yesterday, cancelled, refunded and a credit in my account for my next booking. Which was quite a relief, the guy on the phone even made a recommendation on places to eat in Stockholm! So all sorted and i am a happy cake lady again!

With accommodation settled and my bags stowed, i made my way over to the international fair for what was billed as one of the THE food festivals to go to. The Stockholm Baking & Chocolate Festival , cakes here are very different. They are mostly pastries and kind of teacakes as opposed to the sponges of UK and US bakeries. I had a quick look round and then gave in to my hungry tummy telling me it needed feeding.

The bakers bakery was where i headed, which had a mixture of speciality bakes from the celebrity bakers that were headlining the event. I grabbed a sandwich and a selection of cakes (drawing scorn from the glamorous Swedish ladies picking one each!) and parked myself in the corner with my pad again. In the long skinny cakes what looks like chocolate is actually liquorice, so be warned! I’m not adverse to the odd bit of liquorice but not in abundance like these cakes had. they were coated, filled and flavoured with it. Hidden in icing, sponge and mallow insides. It was all a bit too much for me. Even the chocolate coatings couldn’t hide the strong flavours!

The event was far more a chocolate lovers heaven than cakes, there were chocolates, cocoa, callebault from all over the world. So i wandered from stall to stall tasting the samples and getting inspiration for flavour combinations as i went. With a baker on my tail watching what i was doing…

Buzzing from another sugar high i got the transit back into town for my dinner date, an old friend of my aunts who i last saw that long ago that i can’t even remember how old i was! We had a great afternoon/evening though. Fiona showed me all around the old town so i have my bearings now, hopefully there will be no Nanny navigation in Stockholm. Then into the city for some dinner and drinks. So i am now loaded with hints and tips for various food markets/boats/walks and trips.

Today is all about the smorgasbord!! and maybe a sauna… that’s another story!

Baci! a very hungry cake lady x x x
